Kamilari

Kamilari is a picturesque old village of about 450 inhabitants situated near the south coast of Crete. Since the village is built on top of three hills, visitors have a great view to the Lybian sea, the Ida Mountains and the Messara plain.

The village has a well-assorted supermarket which is open all year round and many tavernas and kafenions. Very often guests can enjoy products which have grown in the own vegetable gardens and locally manufactured oil and wine.

Moreover, some artists who sell self-made jewellery or paintings have settled in Kamilari. In the shop "Kamilari Bazar", the owner Gaby sells little gifts, her self designed clothes and beautiful silver jewellery. If you go to "Aroma Kelari", you can find beautiful souvenirs, olive oil and wine from own production. Visitors of Kamilari get an insight into the traditional village life far away from booming tourist centres located in the northeastern part of the island.

Due to the warm welcome, holiday makers soon feel part of the village family and therefore saying goodbye is often difficult. That is why many people keep coming back to Kamilari again and again and some of them even settle down in this place and stay for good.

The hospitality, the delicious traditional food, the mild summer evenings, the crystal-clear water of the sea and, last but not least, the Greek wine leave you with a longing for this small village on the south coast of Crete.
